ADVAXIS APPLIES FOR $2.0 MILLION U.S. BIO-DEFENSE GRANT

Responds To Solicitation from Northeast Biodefense Center to Develop Oral Formulation of its Proprietary Live Listeria Technology

TARGET: Oral Vaccine Immunizing Large Population In Case Of Pandemic

North Brunswick, NJ – May 20, 2009Advaxis, Incorporated (OTCBB: ADXS)has applied for a $2 million biodefense grant, in collaboration with a healthcare company (Collaborator), to develop an oral formulation of its live Listeria technology for the prevention of influenza.

This research proposes to use Advaxis' proprietary bioengineered Listeria monocytogenes (Lm) carrier system with a Collaborator's proprietary influenza multi-antigen technology to generate a broad-spectrum oral vaccine against influenza.

This work follows from earlier work performed by Advaxis Scientific Founder Dr. Yvonne Paterson on vaccines directed against influenza antigens. Advaxis will use its latest strain of highly attenuated and antibiotic independent Lm, which was specifically designed for safe use in humans, to develop an oral formulation which will facilitate its use in large populations.

Advaxis CEO Thomas A. Moore said, "Although Advaxis had worked primarily in the development of cancer vaccines, our technology has potentially considerable use in infectious disease applications. Working in the biodefense arena opens up new opportunities for the Company's technology and it's commercialization."
